How it works

You choose a photo and make it into a card. We have it printed and post it to you, with its envelope, for you to write in by hand.

Make a card

A sample card, every picture free for anyone to use. On the front, Van Gogh's painting Cypresses, tall green trees swirling against a turquoise sky, to the card's edges. Inside left, a photograph of brightly painted beach huts at Hove, red, orange and blue under a clear sky, in a white border. Inside right, near the top, a photo of a small blue dahlia, cut out with nothing round it, over Happy Birthday in handwriting, with the rest of the side left blank to write in. On the back, a photograph of winter trees reflected in a pond, by William Henry Fox Talbot, small and square, over a line saying where the pictures came from.

In four steps

  1. Make it

Your picture on the front, and whatever you like on the other three sides.

  2. Keep it

Save it to your cards, to order now, next year, or as often as you like.

  3. Order it

As many as you need, printed on good, heavy card and posted to you.

  4. Write in it

Then send it on, with the message in your own hand.

What you get

A 7 × 5 inch greeting card, folded, with an envelope. The front is your picture, to its edges or with a border. Inside and on the back go more pictures, a few words, or nothing at all: the sample above has a little of each. Before you save a card you see it standing up, folded, from every side, so nothing comes as a surprise.

Cards come to you rather than straight to the person they are for, so you can write in them yourself. We post only to addresses in the UK.

How your cards are made

Our printer prints them in the UK on an HP Indigo, a digital press, on art card: 324gsm matt or 280gsm gloss, whichever you choose for each card. Matt is Mohawk fine art card, with a soft finish. It is recycled, so a slight mark may now and then show in the paper itself, not the ink. Gloss is card with a glossy coat.

  • Water-based inks: They are printed with inks made with water.
  • Sustainably sourced: The card comes from sustainable forests.
  • Plastic-free: There is no plastic in them.
  • Vegan-friendly: There are no animal products in them.
  • Recyclable: They can be recycled.
  • Plastic-free packaging: They are packed without plastic.

Making one

Make a card whenever you like; you need no account until you save it. While you make it, it stays in your browser, and none of it is sent to us, so it waits for you if you go away.

There is no password. When you save your first card, the page asks for your email address, and we email you a link that signs you in. It works once, for 15 minutes. You can also sign in at any time. While PrintCard is new, we approve each account before it can order; you can make and keep cards meanwhile, and we email you when you can order them.

Your cards

Every card you save is kept in your cards, up to 200 of them, ready to order again, change, or delete. A card you have printed stays until you delete it; one you never order is kept for a year. The privacy page says what else we keep.

Ordering, and the post

Put as many of each card in your cart as you need, up to 50 in all. They are printed and posted together, in one parcel, so you pay for postage once, and the more there are, the less each costs. Prices include postage, and no VAT is added: try the price calculator.

Then you give the address they go to, choose the postage, and check it all before you pay, with the day they should arrive. That day counts only working days, leaving out the bank holidays in England, where the cards are printed, and where they are going.

Your cards are posted 24 to 72 hours after you order, and it can take longer at busy times. That is the printing, and no postage makes it quicker. The post takes its own time after that:

  • Budget: Two or three working days once posted. Not tracked.
  • Standard: One or two working days once posted. Not tracked.
  • Express: One or two working days once posted, tracked.
  • Overnight: The next working day after it is posted, tracked.

If a card has to arrive by a certain day, order it in good time.

Paying

Your account has a balance, and we may give it a credit limit, so you can order now and pay later. Top it up with £5, £10, £20 or £50 by card, or by bank transfer. If your balance does not cover an order, you pay the rest by card as you order. Every payment gets a receipt by email.

Once you have ordered

Your order goes straight to our printer, so it cannot be cancelled or changed once it is placed. The terms say this in full.

We email you when the order is with the printer, and again when your cards are posted, with the tracking if you chose Express or Overnight. Each order has its own page, and the home page shows your latest orders first, with where each has got to.

If your cards have not come two weeks after they were posted, or arrive damaged, or are not printed as you made them, email us within 14 days, with a photo, and we reprint them or refund you.

Your account

Your account has your balance, your orders and your address. You can delete it at any time, unless you owe money or an order is still on its way; for 30 days after that, we can bring it back.

If you need us

Email us at hello@printcard.app about anything at all. If it is about an order, give its reference.
